Tour of Michael’s New Office Facility – LEED Gold certificate
Presentation: Keys to Successful LEED Projects
The La Crosse PMI Chapter and the La Crosse ASHRAE Chapter are coming together to learn about a topic of interest to both organizations. Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) is an internationally recognized green building certification system. What are the keys to successful LEED projects? Where to LEED and project management intersect?
A Case Study and Tour of Successful LEED Project Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) is an internationally recognized green building certification system. New building construction is already burdened with complicated personnel interactions, paperwork, decisions, and deadlines. Adding LEED certification to the mix only adds a layer that’s viewed by some in the industry as on par with bureaucratic paperwork that they want as little to do with as possible. However, owners and the public in general are demanding green buildings, and LEED certification is the most prominent green building rating method. So how do you overcome the momentum of “business as usual” on a complex project and get green building goals accomplished?
Come visit the Michaels Engineering office space for a case study on facilitating the process. Michaels' office is the first project in the Coulee Region awarded LEED Gold certification, as well as the first project in western Wisconsin certified under the LEED Commercial Interiors (CI) rating system. You’ll learn what’s necessary to manage the various parties involved with the planning, design, construction, and interaction with the USGBC to achieve LEED certification.
Eric O’Neill is the sustainable design manager for Michaels Engineering. He was the LEED facilitator for several projects, including local projects such as the Michaels Engineering office (Gold), the Gundersen Lutheran clinic in La Crescent (Silver), and the WTC Lunda Center (Silver). He’s currently managing several projects where Michaels Engineering is serving as the LEED facilitator.
