Project Management and Public Interests Minimize

Lessons Learned in Gaining Public Support

Do you think that you face the most difficult stakeholders and requirements? How about gaining the public support for building power lines through your back yards?  Have you ever faced death threats and property vandalizing while managing projects?

In this interactive and lively presentation, Jon Callaway and Pete Holtz will share the lessons learned from previous and ongoing major ATC projects on gaining public support, meeting regulatory requirements and the challenges encountered during constructions.  They will discuss the project management approaches to meet the challenges of building a transmission line from La Crosse to Madison while satisfying the various interests of stakeholders - the community, government, and ATC.

American Transmission Co. (ATC) is a transmission-only electric utility company that builds, maintains, owns and operates nearly 10,000 miles of high voltage power lines in a four state territory. ATC has plans for a 150-mile, 345-kilovolt line from La Crosse to Madison that would address electric system reliability issues locally, provide economic savings and support renewable energy policy. This presentation will include background on who ATC is and how they operate.
